Introduction

Course Objectives

This course is designed to provide you with the basics of dealing with digital images for use in publishing and on the Internet, using Adobe Photoshop. You will learn which resolution to use for each purpose, how to use the various drawing tools, how to modify, retouch and adjust an image, building an image up using layers and adding text to an image.

Pre-requisites Delegates should be familiar with basic Windows 95 or above, or Apple Macintosh OS8 or above operation.
Platform Windows 95+, Mac OS8+

Digital Images
Understanding resolution, limitations to modification of an image and different image types.

Photoshop Basics
The main window, the Toolbox, Palettes, opening and saving images, changing the view, different image file types and when they are used.

Editing Accuracy
Making use of Rulers Grids and Guides to help with accuracy when modifying images.

Colours
Creating Background and Foreground colours and using Pantone colours.

Drawing Tools
Using the Paintbrush, Airbrush, Pencil, Line and Eraser Tools.

Making Selections
Selecting a part of an image using regular shapes, freehand and the Magic Wand, feathering the edge of a selection and modifying a selection.

Modifying an Image
Resizing, changing the resolution, transforming, cropping and retouching.

Adjusting an Image
Adjusting colour, brightness and contrast.

Layers
Using the layer system to assemble an image from others.

Text
Adding text to an image and creating text effects.

Course Objectives This course is designed to provide you with an advanced knowledge of Adobe Photoshopand its tools. You will learn how to use Filters, break an image down into Channels, create complex images using Masks and Layer Masks, record and play commonly used operations, and create cut-out images using Clipping Paths.
Pre-requisites Delegates should be familiar with Adobe Photoshopand its basic operation including resolutions, drawing tools, image modification, retouching, layers and text.

Creating a pattern and using Pattern Fills.

Filters
Using the many Filters and their effect on images.

Image Effects
Posterising an image and creating a Duotone.

Creating and using Masks, saving to an Alpha Channel and creating complex Selections from Masks.

Paths
Using the Pen tools to create Paths, saving a Path as a Clipping Path, and creating complex Selections from Paths.

Layer Masks
Applying a Mask to a Layer and using it to create complex montage images.

Actions
Recording and replaying Actions.

Printing
Halftone Screens and using Digital Watermarking.
